  • Economic crisis & Uranus retro/direct

This week Uranus stations and turns direct, on the very day - Thursday 27th - that Pluto re-enters Capricorn, and there's a new Moon, and in the USA there's the big 'Thanksgiving' holiday with its intended spirit of giving thanks for what one has - appropriately enough.

With Uranus opposing Saturn and not far from squaring Pluto, the recent 'bail-outs' and 'stimulation packages' and whatnot will experience a sea-change, a big shift.  With Pluto's re-entry into Capricorn we're finally going to have no choice but to tear down what's not working and rebuild from solid foundations - the machine has conked out, it's sputtered and hacked and it's now totally clapped out, and no amount of kicking it and jump-starting it will have any effect, trying to resuscitate the dead is an act not only of futility but of stupidity.

The new Moon is a time when we have a new cycle beginning, which we desperately need, and these three occuring synchronously show three phase-shifts, so we can expect world events to unfold accordingly, and we need to take advantage of this moment to chart a new course, not idol-worship the wrecked ship that's run aground.

  • Summit on Financial Markets and World Economy

So we finally have timings for this summit.

According to whitehouse.gov the 'working dinner' on 14th was begun by Bush at 7:29pm EST, and the summit will begin at 8am.  Here are the charts:-

    The working dinner.......

The 1st in the series of summits........

Financial Summit - 1st in series
See how in both of them the Saturn-Uranus opposition is on the MC-IC axis? ;-) And in the previous post we saw how the G-20 resonates with the Saturn-Uranus cycle....

  • The G20

Just been looking at the official page for the G20 group of countries that the USA's President has graciously invited to a summit next weekend to solve the current financial turbulence.

Turns out that looking at the G20's stated purpose for itself reinforces the already-obvious question: why is it necessary to clear up the mess, why didn't all you clever, rich, privileged experts who claim to be worthy of trust prevent the crisis in the first place?

Here's what the G20 says about itself, with the most important parts in bold:-

"The G-20 was created as a response both to the financial crises of the late 1990s and a growing recognition that key emerging-market countries were not adequately included in the core of global economic discussion and governance.

G-20 Commits to Efforts to Reduce Vulnerabilities to Global Financial Crises

Finance Minister Paul Martin today announced in Berlin that the Group of Twenty (G-20) has agreed to a focused agenda aimed at reducing vulnerabilities to international financial crises. The two-day session was the inaugural meeting of the G-20, which Canada will chair for the next two years.

"The G-20 has identified four areas for immediate attention that will help all countries focus on implementing solutions rather than simply fighting off crises," said Minister Martin.

"Our task is clear: to demonstrate that national governments with economies of every shape and size can make globalisation work to the benefit of people in all parts of the world.''

    The four priority areas are:

    • A comprehensive stock-taking of progress made by all member nations in reducing vulnerabilities to crises;

    • An evaluation by countries of their current compliance with international codes and standards in the areas of transparency and financial sector policy;

    • The completion of Reports on Observance of Standards and Codes (Transparency Reports) and Financial System Stability Assessments by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with the co-operation of the World Bank; and

    • An examination of differing exchange-rate regimes and their role in cushioning the impact of international financial crises.

Minister Martin said the establishment of a focused agenda is evidence that the G-20 is uniquely qualified to help make the global economy more stable.

"While this work may seem technical, it is of critical and practical importance," he said. "This first meeting of the G-20 represents an important step in our ongoing efforts to reform the international financial system, promote growth in the global economy, and to see that growth shared widely."

Here's the G20's inception chart, showing a T-square between, appropriately enough, Venus-Saturn-Uranus, in the Fixed Signs:-

  • Lewes Pound: update

An article written by me about the Lewes Pound's inception charts has been published in the latest edition of the Astrological Assocation's newsletter, 'Transit'.  Here's the link to read it online:-

  • CSA, CMED, & CMEC

Today a supposedly radically better institution came into being: CMEC, the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission.  It replaces the Child Support Agency, and sits alongside the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Division which was brought into being earlier this year to cover the Northern Ireland part of the UK's child maintenance system.  Together, CMED and CMEC replace the CSA.  That's enough of the abbreviations, let's look at the charts.

(NB Times aren't available so no house cusps are shown, and the Moon's position should be regarded as approximate.)

Firstly, the chart for the CSA, which covered the whole of the UK system:

    Child Support Agency

Note that the CSA was formed at the Uranus-Neptune conjunction in Capricorn.  Uranus is at 22 Cap, Neptune at 21 degrees 04 minutes Cap, so it's almost an exact conjunction.  These two planets conjoin once every 170-odd years.  Capricorn is a sign of parenthood, particularly fatherhood, and responsibility.  The Saturn-Pluto square shows the potential for terrible destructiveness in the CSA.

    Next, the chart for CMED:

    Child Maintenance & Enforcement Division

After many years of failure and controversy, the new institutions are proposed.  The first, CMED, was formed earlier this year, and as you can see most of the planets of the solar system were bunched within 100 degrees of the circle.  Great potential for lopsidedness.....   Importantly, Jupiter is almost at the same degree as the previous Uranus-Neptune conjunction of 1993, and Neptune has just passed the semi-sextile to it.

And finally, the chart for CMEC:

    Child Maintenance & Enforcement Commission

In this chart Neptune is at 21 degrees 28 minutes of Aquarius, and so is almost exactly sextile the Uranus-Neptune conjunction of the CSA.  Neptune in this chart is pivotal, because it's stationary (appears in the Earth's sky to be unmoving).

All of the planets are spread in half of the Zodiac, between the Saturn-Uranus conjunction.  The changes to child maintenance are due to be phased in throughout the series of Saturn-Uranus conjunctions over the next few years, so we can expect CMEC's work to go through periodic fluctuations in synchrony with those.

We don't need astrology to tell us that the government's CMED and CMEC changes to the child maintenance system are unlikely to work, but a cursory view of these charts certainly confirms that perception.
